Please be aware of the dangers of Teflon.

I have just recieved a call from a very distressed lady. Her five budgies have all  dropped down dead within minutes of each other.

These were all  perfectly healthy birds. The lady put a new baking tray in the oven, it had only been in for a short while.

First one died, followed by the rest within minutes.

This lady had been  unaware of the danger of Teflon, and  had  immediately contacted an avian vet who did in  fact confirm that they had probably  died as a direct  result of  the fumes from the Teflon.

Teflon parts are  also  hidden in all kinds of other  products. Please always check when buying new products or using any you already have.

How very sad.  Teflon is hidden in lots of different items which makes it very difficult sometimes to realise exactly where it is lurking.

That's absolutely horrible, poor lady, she must have been so shocked

Wish that all pet stores would give this information as well. When we bought Sazu, he mentioned nothing of these hidden dangers to us. :s (Be it Teflon, Febreeze etc, luckily I already knew) Will try and help spread the knowledge where and when I can of course.

Thats so very sad for the lady concerned. You have to remember a birds respiratory system is extremely sensitive to toxins that we may not even detect.

Seeing as I am new to all this, where can I get a list of things like this to be aware of...because I never knew this....I know it might seem silly a question but what about scented candles

Candles of any sort are a no no, I have a load of print outs I always give on home checks about dangers etc but it's great that you are doing your research.
