So I've been feeding my Cockatoo green beans as I grow them and I've been looking on line recently for ideas to make feeding my bird other things more interesting like making birdy cakes ect to sneak more green and veggy goodness into his Diet (Hes a seed aholic) and I've seen so many posts saying NO BEANS ARE BAD! NO RAW BEANS ARE BAD or BEANS ARE GOOD FEED THEM BOTH RAW AND OR COOKED! So now I am very confused. Are beans bad for our birds or not? Should I be worried about Babies health?

Green Beans are fine ...the beans that are dangerous are beans like kidney beans and dried beans which should not be fed raw....

Thanks Debs there are a lot of confusing contradicting websites out there but I think I'll trust Birdlines judgement more.

I am new to the forum but I have experienced the same confusing information. It is the word beans or legumes or pulses that is the problem because there are so many different kinds of beans like pinto beans adjuki beans Lima beans and many of them need to be cooked to kill the toxin. Beans in the dictionary means an edible seed.

Green string beans are not toxic raw or cooked. Just make sure you grow them from seed because you cannot tell what pesticides are used when other people are growing them.

BUT many beans or legumes are toxic. To kill the toxic in them they are cooked this destroys the problem. Also some can be sprouted to make them safe and more nutritious.

    I hope this helps

    Regards
