This year has been quite a miserable year in some respects. I lost 3 chickens and my beloved BFA!
I now have given home to woody and Jamie and after the latest chook died I applied for more at BHWT (British hen welfare trust).
I collect 3 lucky ladies this afternoon who otherwise was destined for slaughter! This collection is a bug one 1400 in Lancashire with a second collection of 800 for Shropshire and Herefordshire.
It is amazing site to see when they come outside for the first time, I will post up some piccies.

I would love to see that Sammi. I have had 7 BHWT girls, and loved seeing them feather up, and learn to have dust baths and scratch for bugs.

I now have 10 point of lays and my last ex-bat has a new lease of life with the younger girls to keep her company. We cleaned out the greenhouse yesterday so they now have access to that as part of their run and it's lovely to see them sunbathing and having somewhere to go and scratch when the heavens open. I think there'll be trouble next Spring when we want it back!

I have now 4 x ex batts 2 x ex free rangers I rescued from slaughter from near silverstone - I actually packed the car full if about 20 of them lol 2 x amberlinks and 3 x silkies.

The new girls have now been named agatha, Lois and Hilary :d
I have an eglu cube for the biggies and a eglu classic for the silkies. They did quite well going to bed last night, 2 negotiated the ladder and made thier way to bed in the cube, the other put herself to bed witht the silkies....

They have done thier first lot of scratching so instincts are kicking in, one was sat on my knee last night eating ex batt crumb.
Will post up some pics later, took a video of them when they were let out on the lawn...
