    Hi, i'm Claire

I met some of the birdline representatives at the Parrot SHow a couple of weeks ago and thought i'd take the plunge and become a member.

I have a lovely, feisty and cuddly  yellow sided conure. Rio. SHe's 7 and I've had her since she was 16 weeks old. I'm considering getting a companion for her as my circumstances have changed and she is now home alone when i'm out at work all day. I think she'd like a friend, but i'm concerned she would be jealous of my interactions with a new bird. I'd also  prefer not to breed her as I don't have the time and resources to be a conure grandparent. So thoughts on how to manage introductions and how two gcc hens would be  together would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Claire

Hi Claire, welcome to Birdline. It would be a good idea to consider becoming a Safe House, which would show you if Rio would accept a friend or not. Safe Housing is the temporary placement of a bird in a home until the Foster home is chosen. You learn a lot, it's very rewarding, and it's a huge ego boost, seeing a bird come in, watching it develop, and leaving for it's forever home. Or you can also apply to Foster (permanent home) if the bird fits in well. Have a think. We don't encourage breeding - ever. There are enough birds out there without breeding more, all looking for a happy home...

Hi Doddie, Many thanks for your advice. Certainly open to finding out more about what being a safe house entails.
