Nicky (Orange Winged Amazon) - 3270716

Name: Nicky

Breed: Orange Winged Amazon

Reference No: 3270716

Summary: Hello, my name is Nicky and I'm a 16 year-old female Orange-Winged Amazon looking for someone to give me a second chance in life.

Description:
I'm a friendly, very chatty, bird but I can be a bit nervous. If you're patient with me you'll see I do get used to new things. I've started to enjoy a head scratch, especially when I'm away from my cage. I'm more comfortable with my female carer, but I'm not too bothered by her partner. I'll still give him lots of kisses when he gives me a treat! Oh, by the way, my fave treat is mashed bannana on toast. Just in case you were wondering. I'm happiest around and on my cage, but I've been getting used to sitting in the window on my special shopping basket. I don't really like to stand on any perch outside of my cage. My safehouse people have been trying to work with me on that by placing new perches in my cage to get me accustomed to different things. I do seem to be much better at using them now. Putting my food bowls near them has helped get me used to the different textures and colours. I'm not a destructive bird and I don't chew things. On a warm day I love to go outside in my cage and have a shower. I prefer to have my showers in my cage, but this can be a bit messy inside, so I've been getting used to going up to the bathroom, and sitting on my basket in the bath. I've been living in a house with two dogs and two other Orange-Winged Amazons, and we've all got on well. I'm very happy to have the dogs in the room whilst i'm out (with supervision, of course) but they'll have to watch out because occasionally I try to grab a tail with my beak! I'd be well suited to most households, but I do need someone who can carry on showing me how things are done. At my safehouse I've been learning to step up. I'm not a fan of stepping onto perches but I will go onto my shopping basket (especially for a power treat!). This is a good time to try and give me a head scratch too as I like to be comforted when I'm being taken away from my cage. I will only stand on your arm if I've ended up on the floor and I'm desperate to get up, I think someone could teach me how to step up properly with time and patience. I would very much like that. I need someone who's got time to be my new best mate and give me reassurance when I don't understand something. I like to whistle tunes and I'm very chatty. I also love to have a good laugh and I'd really like it if my new fosterer was like minded. Could it be you? If you think so, please put in an application for me. I'd love to meet you!

Comes with cage? Yes

Location: Dorset

Note: This bird is in the latter stages of the rehoming process and a potential forever home may have been found. Please do not apply for this bird unless the red writing is removed. Thank you.
